Discover What’s New at Phillip Island Nature Parks’ Community Open Day Sunday 6 March 2016.
All Bass Coast Shire residents are invited to join the fun of Phillip Island Nature Parks’ sixth annual Community Open Day on Sunday 6 March.
This year features an exciting array of activities and offers around the theme of ‘What’s New at the Nature Parks’. This includes free entry to Churchill Island, Koala Conservation Centre, the new ‘Antarctic Journey’ at the Nobbies Centre and the evening Penguin Parade.
The Nature Parks is also offering the local community the opportunity to experience their exciting EcoBoat Tours at half price on available sailings.
“There is so much that is new and exciting at the Nature Parks and we are very proud to showcase this with our community,” said Nature Parks CEO Matthew Jackson.
Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to meet staff and volunteers at a range of activities to showcase the environment, wildlife and heritage of the Nature Parks. This includes chatting with our research staff about the recent re-introduction of Eastern Barred Bandicoots onto Churchill Island, hourly guided tours of the new ‘Antarctic Journey’ at the Nobbies Centre, meeting volunteers at the Barb Martin Bushbank, and koala and birdlife walks and demonstrations by our fox detection dogs Sam and Jazz.
There will also be plenty of fun for kids with face painting, old time games and farm activities at Churchill Island in the morning and the ‘Environment Extravaganza’ at the Penguin Parade in the afternoon where all ages can paint their own possum or bird box to take home. Kids can also complete our ‘Open Day Quest’ throughout the day to win fantastic prizes.
A special interactive activity with the Boonwurrung Foundation will be held before the Penguin Parade at 6.30pm where visitors can join the Elders in celebrating and learning about Phillip Island’s Aboriginal culture.
Entry to all activities and Nature Parks’ attractions (including the ‘Antarctic Journey’ and evening Penguin Parade) is free throughout the day for residents, students and landholders of the Bass Coast Shire.
